No Money. Mo Problems.

Welcome back honey!

My economics teacher asked us what the answer to 99 out of 100 questions was… Give up?It's Money. I’m inclined to believe him. It seems like a lot of the excuses here on A Good Excuse Blog are related to money. Probably because so many aspects of our daily lives revolve around cash or a lack of it. I know that I could use a little more. My bank thinks so too because they just sent me an over-draft notification.

Ordinary when I’m in a tough situation, I’d just toss out one of my stock excuses, but banks are harder to give excuses to. Their business depends on fees from customers, so they are not likely to give your money back to you without a good reason. Also, since banks have all your spending information right there on the screen, they will know if you lie about spending money at the drug store for your mom’s medicine when in reality you went to the movies with your friends. These are only two excuses I have for the tricky subject of Bank-Over Draft Excuses. Both of these excuses will require you to put money in your account to cover the amount that you are negative, but you should be able to get the overdraft fee back.

Here are some frugal excuses for "Over-Drafting Your Bank Account"

Whoops: I think one of my debits accidentally went through as a credit at (store) so my available balance showed higher than it really until that charge cleared.

Keep Your Receipt: The last deposit I made at the ATM didn’t print out account statement for me so I didn’t realize my account was so low.

Good Excuses for Leaving a Job

Soo very tiredd.....In my life, I have had no less than 8 different jobs. I’ve worked at three resturants, two gas stations, a motel and two…other jobs… that I do not wish to recall. I’ll be the first to admit it; I was a job-jumper. I would start a job with enthusiasm and excitement, only to start to get disillusioned about 6 months in and start looking for a way out. Toward the last month of employment at any of my soon-to-be-ex-jobs I would usually spend most of my time browsing Craigslist on my Blackberry, looking for a new job.

Of course, I have never learned my lesson. Each time I start a new job, I think it’s going to be the best thing ever. It’ll be “The One”. The one I climb the ladder in and make it to the top of the pyramid. The one where I become the tyrannical boss instead of the lowly underling. The one where- Awww, forget it. It’s not going to happen. I should just be happy to have a job.

If you are presently in a mid-job-crisis and are looking for a way out, here are some good excuses for leaving a job.

Joyless: I’ve stopped enjoying my job and it’s no longer a pleasure for me to work here

Negative Effect: I feel that the stress level at work has affected my relationship with my family.

A Moving Experience: I’m moving to a new part of town and I can’t rationalize such a long commute to this place.

Straight Up: I got a new job offer that pays more and has better benefits.

The Easy Way: This job isn’t challenging me sufficently and I need a career with more personal development opportunities.*

*This last one is a textbook response I found while researching this topic online. I don’t exactly know what the entire sentence means but I bet your boss will!

An Excuse For an Atrocity?

BP. Ocean. BP & Ocean! Who says that oil and water don’t go mix? From the looks of things online, that’s all anybody has been talking about. Obviously, it’s a major disaster and a serious problem. Home owners along the Southeastern Coast have all seen a rapid drop in value for the near future. Pelicans and Whales are all like “why am I so sticky?” BP Oil + Pelican=ConfusionMeanwhile all of us “small people” seem to be saying that British Petroleum needs to just admit they did wrong and start cleaning it up. Others say that BP needs to give us a good reason for why it’s taking so long to clean up.

I think what BP needs is a good excuse. They could simply come forward and say “Sorry, we were out of the office for the past 3 months and we just now listened to your voicemail about the whole oil spill thing”. Or they can take the stance I usually take when I unintentionally damage property, which is: “I don’t know. It was a like that when I found it”. Yet somehow, I doubt that anyone would be dumb enough to believe that excuse for this particular situation. Ironically I don’t think an excuse, regardless of how good it is, is even needed for this situation. Just stop talking and get fixing!
