A Good Excuse for a Good Book

Welcome back honey!

I’m typing this on one of the computers at the library today. According to a 6th grade research paper I wrote once, Ben Franklin was a major influence on today’s library system. He’s also the inventor of Bifocals. He’s also on the $100 bill. I bet it would be weird for him if here we alive today. It would be especially weird if he had to pay a library fine on an Optical Reference Book using a $100 bill with his portrait on it.

I was asked to pay aOverdue! Criminal! library fine today for a book I checked out 4 months ago, Confessions of a Shopahollic. (An uber-cute book, if you haven’t read it yet). I knew about the fine but I was hoping that the librarian didn’t. The total fine was $10.30, which was about $10.20 more than the dime I found in my backpack. Regardless, I was able to dodge the fine and check out my new book, Shopahollic Takes Manhattan. And now without any further delay… I will share some of my favorite library late-fine excuses.

He Said, She Said: I paid that fine a month ago when the computer was down. The librarian told me to keep the receipt she gave me but I forgot to bring it.

Lost in the System: I dropped that book off on time at another branch. There must be some kind of error in the system.

Broken Promises: The book’s spine was barely held together with masking tape when I checked it out and it broke while I was reading it. When I brought it in, the librarian took it directly but she must have forgotten to check it in.

The Truth: This is my first library fine in a very long time and I don’t have enough money to pay it right now but I need to check out book today for school.

-This one isn’t an excuse, it’s just a really good way of playing on the librarian’s sympathies (if any).
